We understand ourselves and the world we live in through the languages we speak and the stories we tell and are told. Our English Language Studio combines a traditional EFL programme with elements from our Creative Writing, Art, and Drama departments to provide a nurturing, collaborative environment in which children learn about, reflect on and question the meanings of stories from different cultures, times, and places, before creating their own–in English.

As well as improving their English, this multi-disciplinary course allows students to develop their understanding of how and why stories work as they develop their speaking, reading, and writing skills. The drama games incorporated into each lesson help children become more confident in their communication, while the independent responses produced at the end of each lesson allow them to experiment with different ways of expressing themselves creatively and to find their own voice.

Our language lessons take place in small groups in bright, large classrooms in one of Berlin’s most beautiful districts. We make sure that the children in the group are roughly the same age, but at the same time take into account the individual progress of each child and provide sufficient support for those who feel unsure or are ahead of the group. We provide all the necessary materials, and offer snacks during a ten-minute break in the middle of the lesson.
